When I tried to compile proto 7 on Mac OsX 10.9.4 and I bumped into several problems,
so after succeeding in building it I decided to write this short post,
hoping that it will be useful to others users.

    Problems:

    1. autogen.sh may get libtool name wrong.
    2. The standard compiler and linker shipped with Command Line Tools in Xcode (5.1.1) seem to have problems in compiling proto source code and interpreting the -rdynamic flag to export all symbols.

    Solution:

I was trying to install PROTO in my VMWare Player virtualized Debien. My host OS is Windows 7 on HP laptop with the Intel integrated graphics. It does not have NVIDIA GPU. It turns out that there are two pckackage prerequesits that are, by default, not available on Debian 7.4: freeglut3 and nvidia-current packages. I did install the freeglut3 but the nvidia-current package is not available for Debian, at least I couldn't locate one. Is it possible to run PROTO in virtual Debian environment at all? and if not is there any other virtual environment that can run PROTO?

Is it possible to define a new special device, with a specific phisical and remote sencing capabilities, and have it used by the PROTO Simulation as the underlaying special devices?
